At around a one hour flight from ten UK airports, October is the perfect time to take a long weekend on Guernsey, one of the prettiest islands (complete with white sand beaches) this side of the Indian Ocean.
Even the long range weather forecast is indicating some mild, sunny days in October.
The crowds have gone home, and almost all attractions remain open.
Consider trying Guernsey in October because :
- It’s a great time to get active with the pick of times for various adrenaline rush
(and gentler) experiences. Local company Outdoor Guernsey (www.outdoorguernsey.co.uk) offers multi-activity days, archery, climbing and some fabulous sea kayaking in your own kayak taking in some of the famous bays and spectacular coastline
- Strictly non Eurozone – the £pound is still the pound and a local crab salad lunch and the famous Guernsey cream tea really won’t break the bank. Want upmarket ? Get the best table in some seafood restaurants that are so good, even the French come over for lunch
- Getting to Guernsey by air is almost a chill out experience itself – the small, yet modern airport means you are usually off the ‘plane and out of the terminal in around 15 minutes – sometimes less.
- Some tour operators have great deals. Example : Channel Island Travel Service has an October offer where you pay for 3 nights and get the 4th one free (saving £138 per couple) at the beautifully refurbished Old Government House Hotel in St Peter Port which has it’s own full-service spa and an award winning chef. www.guernseytravel.com
It rather puts a fourteen hour flight slog into perspective, n’est-ce pas ? …
