VisitGuernsey highly commended at Travel Marketing Awards

VisitGuernsey has received a Highly Commended accolade at The Travel Marketing Awards, which took place in London this week.

11 July 2025

The team was shortlisted in the Best Use of Content Marketing category for its compelling Liberation 80: Keeping Our War Stories Alive campaign.

Guernsey was awarded second place and, of the 163 entries shortlisted across 35 categories, was the only team to receive a ‘Highly Commended’ recognition from the judges on the night.

The campaign was designed to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the islands’ liberation. It focused on authentic storytelling, working closely with historians, local experts, and well-known content creators to bring Guernsey’s wartime history to life. The campaign reached more than 3.3 million people via social media, saw a 400% increase in WWII daily page views, and generated over £5 million in media value.

To support the Liberation 80 campaign, a focus was put on lifestyle coverage with links to the island’s WWII heritage and VisitGuernsey launched a new heritage walk layer in our app, that uses on-site boards and routes to unlock stories and further content from specific occupation and historical sites.

The campaign’s success was amplified through partnerships with high-profile broadcasters and influencers, including History Alice and the We Have Ways of Making You Talk podcast, which brought Guernsey’s stories to new and younger audiences.

Zoe Gosling, Lead Marketing Officer, said:

‘On the night we were just pipped to the post by Texas, but we beat Dubai! To make the shortlist and be in the room with the best in the business was a triumph. We were the only team on the night to be awarded a Highly Commended — a clear nod from industry leaders that this work made an impact.

‘We were very proud to put Guernsey’s Liberation story on the global map.’
