Annual Permits for Visitor Accommodation

Visitor Accommodation provided in premises with a Visitor Economy Planning Use Classification:

The Land Planning and Development (Use Classes) Ordinance, 2017 separates recognised visitor accommodation premises into separate categories for the purpose of the Law:

  • Visitor Economy Use Class 7 - serviced visitor accommodation, such as Hotels and Guest Accommodation
  • Visitor Economy Use Class 8 - non-serviced visitor accommodation, such as Self-Catering.

The approved use of all such premises is to provide short term accommodation for visitors for reward. Premises in either of these use classifications, and with a valid permit, can offer accommodation to paying visitors on a continuous basis.

In addition, there is provision in Planning Law to operate a bed and breakfast visitor accommodation from a private dwelling, without requiring planning permission for a change of use –more information about this here: Minor/Occasional use as Guest Accommodation.
