Liberation 80: Media coverage update

Last month, we shared an update on Liberation 80 - our year-long campaign celebrating Guernsey’s rich history and heritage. We highlighted our partnerships with The Telegraph,  and three prominent history influencers, and mentioned that we hosted several journalists on Liberation Day.

We’re now delighted to share some of the resulting coverage, which has appeared in Discover Britain and War History Online - reaching audiences of 65,000 and 5.5 million unique monthly visitors, respectively.

We're also expecting features in The Sun and Country Life, and we’ll be sure to share those with you as soon as they’re published.

Scottish Travel Trade – Tartan touchdown!

Arriving on the first direct Loganair Edinburgh flight for 2025, we hosted agents from Scottish Travel Trade including, Hays Travel, Barrhead Travel, Travel Counsellors and Travel Matters Travel Magazine. The group enjoyed a familiarisation trip, hosted by VisitGuernsey and Blue Islands and supported by Handpicked Hotels, Guernsey Museums and Tour Guernsey.

Routes for this season:

  1. Loganair – Every Saturday, seasonal May – September 2025
  2. Aurigny – Every Wednesday, seasonal May – October 2025

Information Centre Exchanges with Jersey & France

Representatives from the Visitor Information Centres in Barneville-Carteret – Office de Tourisme du Cotentin and VisitGuernsey attended a familiarisation trip in Jersey. In return Guernsey will also host an exchange trip to strengthen ties, share knowledge and encourage more day trips/short breaks from nearby Normandy and Jersey.

This kind of collaboration supports the growth of our visitor economies and deepens our cultural ties.

Record breaking day for French arrivals

St Peter Port Harbour has welcomed a record number of arrivals from France in May, as the Island enters what promises to be a vibrant summer tourism season. 750 car and foot passengers arrived from St Malo on Thursday 29th May, marking the busiest single day for continental arrivals to the Island. To mark the occasion, VisitGuernsey provided live musical entertainment in the passenger terminal to enhance the atmosphere and the meet and greet team welcomed the passengers and handed out maps and information.

Brittany Ferries’ vessel brings a flavour of Guernsey to visitors

Following her return to service in late March, Brittany Ferries’ conventional vessel has undergone a cultural refresh. We were delighted to work with Brittany Ferries re-naming her 11 superior and luxury cabins after iconic locations across the Islands, including St Peter Port, Fort Hommet, Fermain Bay, Hauteville House, Shell Beach, La Coupée and Longis Bay in Alderney.

An explanatory poster has been installed in each cabin whilst a new, visual map in the main concourse directs passengers to their themed quarters.
