This year marks the 80th Anniversary of Liberation Day, a historic milestone for Guernsey. To make this celebration truly special, we need your help! Whether you’re interested in volunteering, decorating, or promoting the event, there are many ways to get involved.

Volunteer for Liberation 80

We are seeking enthusiastic volunteers to help bring this year’s celebrations to life. Whether you can spare a few hours or want to take on a leadership role, your support will make a huge impact.

Volunteer locations:

• St Peter Port Seafront

• Along the Cavalcade Route

• L’Eree

Why volunteer?

• Be part of Guernsey’s history and help preserve our heritage.

• Enjoy a front-row seat for the Cavalcade.

• Flexible shifts: volunteer for as little as 2.5 hours (minimum age 16).

• Take your pick - Various opportunities available, including marshalling and stewarding.

• Full training and resources provided.

Lead Volunteers Needed!
We are also looking for a small number of lead volunteers to assist in coordinating teams at different locations. This is a great opportunity to take on a leadership role and have a bigger impact on this milestone celebration.

Decorate to Liberate

The Committee for Education, Sport & Culture is inviting everyone to decorate homes, shops, streets, and offices in celebration of Liberation Day. This beloved tradition began in 2020 and continues to bring the island together through creative displays of festive spirit.

Ways to Participate:

• Use flags, bunting, or themed decorations to showcase your support.

• Get creative with community art, floral arrangements, or dress-up days.

• Even a small gesture, like an “80th” sign in your window, makes a big impact!

A bunting template is available on the Liberation Day website here. Islanders are also encouraged to share their decorations using #DecorateToLiberate on Facebook, Instagram, and X/Twitter.

Liberation 80 Promotional Assets

To help promote the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day, we have created a suite of free creative assets that can be downloaded and used to support events and activities leading up to May 9.

If you are organising an event centred around Guernsey’s Occupation/Liberation story, please share the details with us so we can include them in our marketing campaigns, PR outreach, and consumer communications.

This year’s celebrations promise to be bigger and better than ever. The 2025 Cavalcade will also feature up to 100 additional visiting military vehicles, alongside classic cars, motorbikes, and floats.
