Following a competitive tender process, Guernsey Ports has selected Brittany Ferries to operate duty-free shopping from the vehicle secure check-in paddock and the harbour terminal building.
The company will also take over the food and beverage facilities in both locations. These are currently operated by Condor Ferries, which is now majority owned by Brittany Ferries.
As part of the agreement, Brittany Ferries will be refurbishing and improving the facilities in each location. Brittany Ferries has experience of operating similar harbour-based facilities at Roscoff in France and provides duty-free shopping on board its ships.
David Buddery, Guernsey Ports’ Commercial Development Project Manager, said:
“The introduction of duty-free shopping for vehicle and foot passengers will be a welcome addition to our harbour facilities.
“Brittany Ferries has committed to upgrading the current facilities in both locations, which will improve the customer experience for all departing passengers and increase the range and quality of products available.
“This is one of a number of initiatives Guernsey Ports is working on to both enhance the experience of our users and diversify our revenue streams.”
Brittany Ferries is currently recruiting for Guernsey-based staff to help operate these new facilities, creating up to six jobs.
Joëlle Croc, Brittany Ferries’ Director Customer Experience & Onboard Sales, said:
“We are thrilled to have been chosen by Guernsey Ports to provide duty free shopping and catering for all passengers departing St Peter Port.
“With our new schedule fast approaching, we are working diligently to ensure our new retail and dining facilities, along with dedicated staff we are recruiting, are ready to welcome travellers and deliver an exceptional experience during what promises to be a busy season.”
The new facilities are expected to be ready by the early summer.
