Renowned chef and food influencer James Strawbridge is visiting the island later this month to promote Guernsey as a food destination to his UK audience.
James, who will be on-island for three days, will create a series of videos in partnership with VisitGuernsey, to be posted on social media to his 122k followers. Those videos will highlight the quality of produce from Guernsey more generally as well as the island’s increased focus on sustainability using local ingredients.
His first day will include a foraging trip with a small group of pupils from La Houguette Primary School at Fort Grey and Camp de Rêves, followed by an afternoon visiting some of the Pollinator Project’s current initiatives with his mother Brigit Strawbridge, who is an influencer in her own right.
Brigit is a bee advocate, wildlife gardener, naturalist, and author of ‘Dancing with Bees: A Journey Back to Nature’. She will be meeting Wild Islands; an environmental conservation organisation, whose mission is to create a nature positive world by highlighting islands as critical centres of biodiversity.
The following day, James is creating some dedicated coverage for the Fleur du Jardin and Little Big Brew Co., wherein he will be pairing local charcuterie products with three local beers.
He will then be traversing Guernsey’s ruettes tranquilles and quiet lanes by e-bike, on a bespoke tour of local hedge veg stalls and local farm shops by Go Guernsey Land & Sea.
His final day will include a tour of local producers, including Guernsey Dairy, Rocquettes Cider, Guernsey and Herm Oysters, and Guernsey Seaweed.
Hannah Beacom, Chair of the Tourism Management Board, said:
“Guernsey is a place flush with amazing produce and producers, and part of our strategy is to highlight the quality of what the island has to offer. Bringing well-known chefs over from the UK is an excellent way of highlighting exactly what we have to offer to a national audience, and we hope will give potential travellers an insight into why visiting Guernsey is a must. We look forward to welcoming James and Brigit, and showing them the best of the Bailiwick.”
James’ visit forms part of VisitGuernsey’s wider marketing strategy which includes the promotion of food tourism. He has a highly engaged audience on social media, who largely sit within a key target demographic visitor wise for the island, comprising affluent couples and multi-generational families.
