The Committee for Economic Development is legally empowered to grade and describe Permit premises as it considers appropriate. Assessors appointed by the Committee are empowered by Law to enter and inspect premises in respect of which a permit has been granted at all reasonable times, subject to producing identification.

Accommodation is assessed and graded against the criteria of the approved quality standard relevant to the particular type of accommodation. A written report, including a recommended star rating is submitted for confirmation by Quality Development and copied to the accommodation provider.

Under a long-standing agreement with industry, reasonable costs incurred by an assessor in grading an establishment are met by the accommodation provider – including the cost of accommodation, food and any other charges incurred in testing the facilities and services offered. This is specified in the Declaration signed by all permit applicants.

Assessment may also result in the recommendation of additional awards for an establishment – these include Gold or Silver Service and Hospitality Accolades, Breakfast Awards and Guest Dining Awards. Assessment recommendation are confirmed by the issue of an annual grading certificate by Quality Development..
